Skin concern

Dryness & Barrier

Comfort, hydration, restored.

About this concern

What's actually happening

Dryness happens when skin lacks oil; dehydration when it lacks water — and many people have both. A compromised barrier (from over-exfoliating, harsh products, weather, or hot water) lets moisture escape and irritants in.

The result is skin that feels tight, flaky, rough, or stingy — and it usually responds quickly to gentler, richer care. At Andersen Esthetics, we focus on replenishing and protecting dry skin rather than stripping it — which matters year-round, and especially through a Buffalo winter.

The Andersen approach

Our hydrating facials are deeply comforting. Depending on your skin, we may suggest:

  • Refine Facial — a gentle glow without stripping the skin.
  • Dream Facial — intensive hydration and radiance.
  • Lactic Acid Peel — gentle, hydrating resurfacing, only when appropriate.
  • The Basic Facial — a simple, nourishing reset.

Everything is geared toward replenishing moisture and supporting your barrier, not exfoliating it away.

Between visits

At-home essentials

  • Keep showers short and warm (not hot), and use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Apply a rich moisturizer right after washing, while skin is still damp.
  • Look for ceramides, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and squalane.
  • Pause strong actives until your barrier recovers, run a humidifier in winter, and wear daily SPF.
